Onmitsukidō (Stealth Squad or Punishment Force)

Captain Yoruichi Shihōin was the Commander-in-Chief of the original Onmitsukidō before being promoted to Captain of the Second.  As such, the special operations of the Soul Society have become the full measure of what the division involves itself in primarily.  Members are tasked with assassination, policing, detention and message couriers.

Barracks:

Like all other barracks, the 2nd Division Barracks house offices and living quarters of the Shinigami of the 2nd.

The buildings are amazingly luxurious due to Lieutenant Ōmaeda reconstructing offices using his private fortunes.  The offices are said to boast automatic doors and heated floors.  The barracks even have a hot springs.

The 2nd Division Grounds also hold the Ujimushi no Su (Nest of Maggots)

Nest of Maggots:

It is located on the grounds of the Second Division, and is surrounded by a moat.  On the inside, it resembles a cave with an open area for prisoners.

When a Shinigami becomes a potential danger to other Shinigami and Soul Society, that Shinigami is brought to the Nest of Maggots for imprisonment—regardless if they were put on trial—this is to ensure no danger will be brought to the Soul Society.

All prisoners are held inside a cell (since they cannot set foot outside the prison).  With the exception of infamous resident Mayuri Kurotsuchi—who was once considered an exceptionally dangerous person—treatment of the prisoners is mostly lenient; they can walk freely and converse with one another, but the bleak setting drives many to madness.

Neither the staff—Called Jailers—of the Detention Unit nor any other visitors are permitted to carry a Zanpakutō into the Nest of Maggots: visitors must deposit them at the main entrance.  This measure means that the Jailers are required to control the prisoners with bare hands.  If a Shinigami desires to enter and is no adept at hand-to-hand combat, they may not enter.  This is to prevent rebellions and escapes from the prison.
