Special Duties: 

No special duties have been noted for the First Division.  First Division is ranked highest among the Gotei Thirteen.  Even subordinate members of the First are considered model Shinigami.  Emergencies must be dealt with swiftly; quick decisions and quick actions are essential.  The division is able to ascertain a situation quickly even before an order is issued.  That is the value of the First Division. 

Barracks:

Like all other barracks, the First Division Barracks house the officers and living quarters of the Shinigami.  In addition, due to the First Division being the division of the Captain Commander, the barracks also host the Assembly Hall where the Captains gather for their Meetings.  The barracks also have a separate room set aside for Lieutenant Meetings. 

Recruitment:

As his leadership unites the Gotei 13, Captain-Commander Yamamoto seeks out soldiers who can serve as an example for every other division.  Therefore, being assigned to the First Division is a great honor.
